Oilseeds have an important role in edible oil production.  Moisture content measurement of oilseed is an inevitable operation in harvesting and almost all postharvest processing such as handling, storage, milling and oil extraction.  In this paper, a cylindrical capacitive sensor was used to predict the moisture content of sesame, soybean and canola seed as a simple, low cost, rapid and reliable method.  Two varieties of each oilseed were selected and extracted equation from a variety was evaluated for another variety.  The hyperbolic regression and paired t-test were utilized to extract the calibration equations and perform a comparison between predicted moisture with actual values.  The R2 of calibration for Dashtestan and Ultan sesame were 0.998 and... No periodo de 1983 a 1985, foi conduzido na regiao do sertao pernambucano do Sao Francisco, no municipio de Petrolina, PE, um trabalho de campo com o proposito de investigar os efeitos de espacamento, densidades populacionais e manejo de solo sobre a producao de dez cultivares de gergelim. Os resultados evidenciaram que o sistema de captacao de agua de chuva "in situ" aumentou significativamente, a produtividade de gergelim em relacao ao plantio no plano nos anos de irregularidades pluviometricas. The effects of temperature on germination and endo-beta-mannanase activity in seeds of Sesamum indicum was investigated. The minimum germination temperature (Tmin) lies between 12.8°C and 13.2°C while the maximum temperature (Tmax) is located between 45.5°C and 46°C. Germinabilities are statistically not different from estimated viability (88%) between 18.8°C and 43.2°C. The Mann-Whitney test indicated the interval 31.9°C to 35.1°C as the optimum temperature (Topt) range for germination rate. When seeds incubated at temperatures at or below the Tmin and close to or above the Tmax were transferred to 30°C, those incubated at lower temperatures achieved high germinability.
